Health secretary Jeremy Hunt was Monday appointed as the new British foreign secretary after Boris Johnson quit the cabinet in protest at Theresa May’s Brexit policy.
Hunt who had served as health secretary since 2012 was summoned to Downing Street where he was handed over the job by Theresa May- following the dramatic resignations of Mr Johnson and Brexit secretary David Davis over disagreements with the prime minister’s Brexit policy which was fashioned out at last Friday’s meeting she had with cabinet ministers at the Chequers.
Following in the foot steps of the duo, a junior Brexit minister Steve Blake also sent in a letter of resignation for similar reason.
Both Davis and Johnson are the arrowheads of a hard Brexit which seeks to completely severe ties with the European Union (EU) .
Mr Hunt, one of the senior Conservative politicians tipped as a future leader, remarkably turned down offers of a higher position in January this year when Mrs May reshuffled her cabinet, preferring instead to stay as health secretary
